
McKinney ISD is dedicated to ensuring an educational environment that also educates students about health and wellness. In McKinney ISD, each campus has a coordinated health team. The coordinated health and wellness teams include certified health & PE teachers, Registered nurses, counselors, food service workers, classroom teachers and principals. Community partners include parents and professionals such as the McKinney Fire Department and health service professionals. The City of McKinney and the school district are working together to create the “Fittest” city in the United States.

The district has approved Coordinated Health and Wellness curriculum resources and programs that include Harcourt and Glencoe Health Textbooks, Risk Watch http://www.riskwatch.org , Protecting You Protecting Me (PYPM) http://www.hazelden.org/web/go/pypm , Coordinated Approach to Child Health (CATCH) http://www.sph.uth.tmc.edu/catch/ , Bully Prevention & Awareness utilizing resources from Olweus, Donna Clark Love and Bully Proofing your Schools, and We Help Ourselves (WHO) http://www.childbuilders.org/programs/whoAbout.html . The district also participates in Fitnessgram (3-12) http://www.fitnessgram.net/home/ . Nutrigram is another tool MISD is beginning to use to promote healthy eating habits partnering with the Cooper Institute. NutriGram supports the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Three E’s of Healthy Living- Education, Exercise and Eating Right initiative. Per the Texas Education Agency's requirement to provide effective programs (Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §102.1031), each program is designed to coordinate Health education, Physical education, Nutrition services and Parental involvement.
The McKinney ISD health and wellness plan will be coordinated in schools. Coordinated Health teams will guide and support all Coordinated Health partners with implementation of the Coordinated Health and Wellness curriculum.
The Coordinated Health and Wellness Outline that details the responsibilities of and resources for the coordinated health partners are available to faculty and staff in the Health folder on the shared drive. Access to information regarding the districts Coordinated Health and Wellness Plan will be available to all community members on the McKinney ISD website.
All Coordinated Health and Wellness curriculum must be approved by the district School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC).
