HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER PROGRAMS:
Program Description: Academic programs offered this summer go beyond the traditional “summer school classes” to also include preparation and tutoring for both the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (S.T.A.A.R.) and the exit-level TAKS test. Tutoring for these exams will be provided both in a face-to-face format as well as opportunities to take online classes to help students prepare for these exams. In addition to available tutoring for these two state mandated exams, an entire week is scheduled to administer these exams.
Once the tutoring and exams have been completed it is time for the “centerpiece” of the summer programing, where students can take either an online class or a face-to-face class. Students who enroll in a face-to-face section of the summer school program can expect a “challenged-based” curriculum that will push students to do their very best. Students enrolled during this period of time will be provided with focused lessons based on essential elements and given enrichment opportunities to enhance the learning process. Students will be instructed by teachers who will present innovative lessons that will motivate and stimulate student learning. For more information, please access

ELEMENTARY NEWCOMERS SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
Program Description: The Elementary Newcomers Summer Enrichment Program targets new English as a Second Language Students arriving to McKinney ISD from numerous backgrounds and countries. The new students may know little English, and understand few, if any, of the classroom norms that to most students is commonplace. The MISD Elementary Newcomer Summer Enrichment Program aims to ease this transition by teaching students basic English, and introducing them to school structure in a gradual, supportive way over the summer before classes begin. Students focus on academic vocabulary and language acquisition throughout the day, with content area teachers. The Title III program, however, serves as even more: it warmly welcomes the young students into their new country, gives them opportunities to make new friends, and connects them with adult mentors who truly care and are passionate about their success. This program services students by invitation only.
