
In order to help guide our students into the right academic direction and to help them get ready for college, students at MISD middle schools and high schools will be exposed to several test. These test provide students, parents and teachers with essential insights at critical points in students’ academic careers. MISD believes those tests are important steps for ensuring future success for all students.
MISD is currently offering the following tests throughout the secondary level:

ReadiStep . 8th grade, Middle School
This assessment spells out what your student is expected to know and be able to do before entering high school. ReadiStep in its format can be looked at as a stepping stone towards the PSAT.

EXPLORE. 9th grade, High School
This exam includes achievement tests in English, Reading, Mathematics and Science. Additional components are an Interest inventory and a Needs assessment. It contents are based on standards, which are assessed and culminate in the empirically-based College Readiness benchmarks. NOTE: This college readiness assessment will not be offered during the 2012-2013 school year.

PLAN. 10th grade, High School
This exam is linked to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and based upon ACT research results. It assesses academic achievement in English, mathematics, reading and science. PLAN in its format is a test crafted to prepare for the ACT. NOTE: This college readiness assessment will not be offered during the 2012-2013 school year.

PSAT/ NMSQT. 10th and 11th grade, High School
A preliminary college admissions assessment used for guidance and scholarship purposes. It prepares students to take the SAT, a college admissions test , that measures what students have learned in the high school classroom and how well they can apply that knowledge.
