She and her husband, Johnny, have been married for 22 years have a son that graduated from McKinney North High School. She has also raised a niece and nephew, one graduating from McKinney North High School, and the other from McKinney High School.

Mrs. McKinzie graduated from McKinney High School in 1977. She spent the last 20 years of her professional career working for Raytheon Company in McKinney. She is currently employed as a Supply Chain Specialist and is active in a number of volunteer organizations throughout the community.
