SMS Text Alerts

McKinney ISD has announced the launch of a new text messaging service designed to enhance school-to-home communication.

With this new service, McKinney ISD can contact you via text message to send weather alerts, school closings and emergency news – but only with your help. In order to participate in this service, you must indicate your willingness to receive text messages to your phone. If you would like to receive text messages from McKinney ISD, you must “opt in” for that service – federal regulations prevent us from using SMS to contact you without your permission.

The process is simple and only takes a few seconds to complete.

Utilizing the “Opt In Message”

You can only receive SMS messages on phone numbers that we have in our system. Either your primary phone or alternate phone MUST be a cell number to receive texts from the district. If you need to add or change a cell number, please contact your campus front office.

  1. Simply text 67587 with “Y” or “Yes”
  2. You’ll know you were successful if you receive the following reply message:
“You’re registered 4 SchoolMessenger notifications. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help. Msg&data rates may apply. Msg freq varies. schoolmessenger.com/txt”
  3. You’ll want to repeat the opt-in process for any wireless numbers that you wish to include; however they must be in our system to be tied to you and your student.

Please note, text messaging fees apply to the owners of the cell phones if they have a plan that charges for text messages. Our organization does not reimburse for any charges associated with sending or receiving text messages. Parents only receive text messages if they opt in by texting with “Y” or “Yes”.

What if I don’t want text messages?

To opt out of all text messages from SchoolMessenger, visit this web page or reply with “STOP” to the opt-in message that you receive. If you opt-in, but later decide to opt-out, simply send “STOP” to 67587. You may also reply “STOP” to any message from our organization.

Text messaging will not replace other forms of communication already in place for McKinney ISD. Rather, it will be added to our avenues of communication.
