A Mayor's Job Description

A Mayor is in charge of running the city every day. His job includes talking to citizens of the city and other government leaders to help solve problems, making plans for the future of the city, and, of course, he signs lots and lots of papers.

You think it's easy being mayor of a town or city? Think again. Done right, it's one of the toughest jobs around. You're on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You're in the spotlight wherever you go, whatever you do.  No matter what decision you make, you get criticized by at least a handful of people – and in a lot of cases, by a whole lot of people. And it's not much better if you don't make a decision.

To be sure, there are many rewards to being mayor. You get to help a lot of people, in little ways as well as big ways. You have the chance to really make a difference in the history of a town. You get your name and face in the papers on a regular basis, as well as your voice on the radio and your image on TV. But the salary is way too low considering the difficulty and importance of the job. On top of that, the challenges just never end.
