Introduction: Science plays an enormous part in our everyday lives. There is not one thing in our world that has not been affected in some way by Science. Scientific discoveries and inventions whether accidental or on purpose have allowed society to advance in medicine, technology and many other areas.

 

 

Task: Your assignment is to research a scientist and his/her contributions.

 

 

Requirements: You will be required to create a 1 to 2 page typed report (12-14 point font double spaced) and a visual of some sort. For example, a poster, a mobile, a "cube" (like the ones we did for char/setting/plot… but with science information on it) or anything else you can think of. (needs to be approved by the teacher.)

What should be included: (On both the report and the visual) This will count as three grades. One for the report, one for the visual and a presentation grade.

Scientist’s name 5 points
Date of birth and death 5 points
Biography of life (short summary) 20 points
What did he/she invent? 10 points
Why did he/she invent it or how did he/she discover it? 25 points
How did it affect our world/society/environment? 25 points
Report- typed (12-14 point font) double spaced (Spelling does count) 10 points
Visual- neatness 10 points

 

 

Extension:

Imagine you are a scientist. What would you invent? Create a small visual (for example, a piece of poster board cut in half) with your idea drawn on it. You also need to include a paragraph about your invention on the visual. How will it impact your world? Why did you invent it?
