"Tiger Tales"
Dear Tiger Parents,
Our very busy year has begun! We are excited about the enthusiasm and excitement being expressed by our students, parents and staff about the upcoming year.
Communication Updates To better communicate and knowing that family schedules are always crowded, I will be sending out periodic updates about upcoming events at Scott Johnson Middle School. Continue to check our website daily for updates on all the many activities that are taking place across our campus.
Schedules Students must bring the following paperwork in order to obtain their schedule: Click Here for Requirements
Student pictures will taken during schedule during pick-up times.
All SJMS students are required... They are required to have a 3-inch or larger, three-ring binder such as a "Trapper Keeper." Students will be required to keep inside this notebook a weekly planner of their choice that will cover the school year.
You may use any planner of your choice, but for the easy access and availability of students and their parents, we are making available a Tiger Pack Planner that will be provided for each and every student originally. It is a planner that carries a positive student attitude with our school's logo on the cover. If a planner is lost, they will be available in the SJMS Library for $5.00 each.
Miscellaneous Items * Students may enter the building and report to the Cafeteria beginning at 7:15 a.m. in the mornings - not before...Our school day begins promptly at 7:45 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. * They are not to be dropped off early as there is no supervision available. * Students are suppose to enter the building immediately upon their arrival as "lottering" or "hanging" out front in the morning is not allowed. * Labor Day, September 1st - No School * Open House, Sept. 9th, 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Tardies Please allow enough time in your planning to provide for a successful beginning of the day for your child.. Having them at school consistently early enough to let them go to their lockers and then be in their seats of their first period class by 7:45 in the morning, promotes a positive beginning framework for successful learning at SJMS each and every day. Multiple tardies may result in strong consequences.
PTO Opportunity Parents and students will have the opportunity to join the PTO, sign up for volunteer opportunities, pre-pay on the student lunch account, locate the student locker and practice using the lock.
Athletic Parent Meeting On Tuesday, September 9th we will have a athletic parent meeting in the cafeteria starting at 7:00 PM. Our meeting will coincide with the "Meet the Teacher" night and will be for all sports at SJMS. We will introduce the coaching staff and then break into our respective sports.
PE Uniforms and First Day Forms - P.E. Order Form PE Uniforms are not mandatory but highly suggested. Students will have the opportunity to lock their items in the PE area during class.
First Day Forms - Keep an eye out! Students will bring home several pieces of information on the first day of school. Among these will be: * Student Code of Conduct Book * SJMS Handbook * FERPA form * Scott Johnson Student Planner * Migrant Worker Survey * Residency Questionnaire * Limited public Forum
Students will need to return the blue signature card and the pink signature card from the handbooks as well as the rest of the forms which apply to them as soon as possible. They should be turned in to their first period teacher.
Secure Campuses McKinney ISD has implemented a new system which is being used to help protect your children - it is called V-Soft. V-Soft helps track visitors, students, faculty, contractors and volunteers at our school, thus providing a safer, more monitored, environment for the students.
When visitors, volunteers or contractors check-in, or parents come to pick up students, they will be asked to present a valid state or government issued photo ID for entering into the system. The system has the ability to provide alerts on people who may jeopardize the safety of the campus. No visitor will be allowed access to the school unless they produce a valid state issued photo ID.
We feel certain this will help us keep our campus a little safer. We ask for your cooperation in presenting your valid state or government issued photo ID when checking in at the school. Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.
Volunteer Sign-Up! We need your help! Becoming a volunteer with MISD is as easy as a click of the mouse on your computer. Potential volunteers can register to become a volunteer by simply completing the MISD
AVID We are extremely pleased to announce that Jenny Zornes will be heading up our AVID program this year. There are many new and exciting things being planned for our 2008-2009 year. For more information about what AVID is Click Here
Please contact us if we may be of any further assistance as this year continues together.
Sincerely,
Mitchell Curry, Principal SJMS Scott Johnson Middle School McKinney Independent School District
