Scott Johnson Students
State of Texas Artwork Recognized!

John Siamro - Jasmin Trevino students at Scott Johnson Middle School were recognized recently.

The contest called for artwork illustrating "Texas Landscapes and Celebrations." It was jointly sponsored by the Texas Art Association Association, and the Texas Commission on the Arts. Entries were submitted in the spring.

John Siamro's and Jasmin Trevino's paintings will be included in the exhibit in Austin jointly sponsored by the Texas Art Education Association and the Texas Commission on the Arts. The exhibit will be in Austin December 3rd through February 8, 2008. "Only 200 works will be exhibited from all students in the entire state - and two are from SJMS! Pretty awesome!" was the excited response of Gwen Pobanz, Fine Arts - Art Teacher who worked and sponsored these students.

John Siamro's entry, which earned an Award of Excellence certificate and medal, was a watercolor painting of a ship for his artwork submitted in the Spring. He did this project as a 6th grader. "I felt it was a good representation of Texas' coastal activities," stated Mrs. Pobanz.

Jasmin Trevino's painting was done in tempera in the style of the Australian Aborigines. It illustrated a flower and hummingbird, surrounded by patterns. It was done in 7/8th grade art class.

Honorable Mention Certificates Were Earned...

Katelyn Porterfield

"Needless to say, this has really made my day!" - Gwen Pobanz
