MISD Board Approves 2009 Graduation Date and
Revision to School Calendar

Graduation for all MISD High Schools will be held on Friday, June 5, at Prestonwood Baptist Church (times TBA). To permit this graduation date, the final day of school for 08-09 has been moved from Friday, June 5, to Thursday, June 4.

In order to move the last day of school forward and maintaing the appropriate number of instructional days and teacher contract days, the bad weather day previously set for May 22 has been moved to April 13. May 22 will now become a regular instruction day.

The April 10 bad weather day will remain unchanged and will be used if needed. The bad weather day now set for April 13 will not be used unless MISD is forced to make up two bad weather days. If it is not needed, April 13 will be used as a MISD staff development day, and students will be off for a student holiday. Click to view the revised MISD 2008-2009 School Calendar.

MHS Handbook Available Online

All students will receive a copy of the 2008-2009 MHS Student Handbook on Tuesday, September 2. Click the link to view the online version. A SPANISH Version is also available.

Changes for the 2008-2009 School Year

MHS is operating under a new bell schedule for this school year. School now begins at 9:15 a.m. and concludes at 4:20 p.m. MHS has also implemented a zero hour schedule. Zero hour classes meet on alternating school days (Blue and Gold Days) from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. A complete bell schedule is available HERE.

Ten Late Start Days are also included on the school calendar for High Schools only. On these days, all MISD high schools will begin classes at 11:00 a.m. instead of the customary 9:15 a.m. Students should plan to arrive on campus beginning at 10:30 a.m. This schedule will permit additional time for teachers to plan and develop curriculum.
Late Start Dates are Sept. 3, Sept. 24, Oct. 16, Nov. 5, Dec. 17, Jan. 28, Feb. 18, Mar. 11, Apr. 8, and May 20. All dates fall on Wednesdays except for Oct. 16 (Thursday).
NOTE: Zero hour classes will meet at regular time on Late Start Days. Students will have a break from 9:00 to 11:00.

Three Early Dismissal Dates are included in this year's school calendar. On October 10, January 9, and February 27, students will be dismissed from school early so that teachers and staff may participate in professional development activities. All early dismissal dates fall on a Friday. Specific release time to be announced.

Centralized Textbook Checkout procedures will be implemented this school year. Rather than checking out textbooks from the classroom teacher, students will receive textbooks directly from the MHS bookroom. Utilizing scanning technology, this system will benefit both students and teachers by increasing accuracy and saving time.

RAPTOR visitor registry system will be implemented at MHS. We feel certain this system will help us keep our campus a little safer, and ask for your cooperation in presenting your valid state or government issued photo ID each time you enter the school. Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

Homecoming Plans Announced

The MHS Student Council has announced plans for Homecoming 08. Homecoming will be a different week this year as the Homecoming Football Game is on a Thursday night. The Homecoming Dance will be held on Friday night, October 3, after the volleyball matches.

The festivities will begin on Saturday, September 27 with the traditional parade, tailgate party, and carnival. This year all the money raised will benefit the McKinney SPCA. MHS clubs and organizations will set up booths (i.e. face painting, basketball toss, ring or hula hop toss,.....). Elementary and middle feeder schools have been invited to participate in the parade and to stay for the carnival. Please contact the MHS Student Council to find out more information on how your club or organization can help make this year's parade and tailgate a fun time for all.

More Homecoming 08 Information is available HERE. Click to view the Parade Route and download a Parade Application. Click HERE for more information about the tailgate party.
