TEA's "Exemplary
Rating" Award
Eddins Elementary puts the “E”
in Exemplary
Beginning in 2003, the state of
Texas
implemented a new state mandated test. The new test was called the TAKS
– Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills. It is closely aligned with the
state curriculum called the TEKS – Texas Essential Knowledge and
Skills. The TEKS are the essential skills that a student should master at
each grade level K-12.
The TAKS test was developed by the Texas
Education Agency with input from thousands of Texas
teachers and administrators. The TAKS is more rigorous than its predecessor
the TAAS test. It tests student’s knowledge at a critical thinking level. In
3rd grade, students must pass the reading test to be promoted to 4th
grade. Beginning in 2005, 5th grade students must pass the reading
and mathematics test to be promoted to 6th grade.

The
Eddins Elementary staff is very proud of our students’ accomplishments. The school
received the highest rating given by TEA, Exemplary. In the 2008 -
2009 school year, we will strive to continue the tradition of academic
excellence.
TBEC Honor Roll
The Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC)
recently named C.T. Eddins Elementary to the 2006 TBEC Honor Roll. The TBEC Honor Roll places an emphasis on
how many students scored at the state’s highest standard – Commended – on all
tests. Also taken into consideration by the TBEC were the student
demographics, the number of subjects tested and the grade level of students
at each school.
Blue
Ribbon Nomination
Eddins was nominated to apply for the Blue Ribbon School
Award by the U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Committee.
Eddins Elementary was awarded the Blue
Ribbon School designation in October 2007.
