I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with the wonderful students, faculty and staff at Dowell Middle School. Since opening in 1995, Dowell has quickly developed a rich history of success. This school year has seen a focus on relationships and high expectations. Flip Flippen is the founder of Capturing Kids' Hearts and affirms that "If you have a child's heart, you have his head." Our goal is to foster a campus culture built on strong relationships with students, parents and colleagues. Research has proven that "relationships among staff are one of the greatest indicators of student success" (Barth, 2006). My experience has also demonstrated that the success of a school is determined by the strength of the relationships fostered in the school.

High expectations are the next component of a successful school. Students tend to fill the container placed before them. When we challenge them with a large container of high expectations, they seek to successfully fill it. When presented with a small and limited container, they also seek to fill it.
