Redistribution - 2008-2009
McKinney ISD
2008-2009
Board Approved
Middle School Student Redistribution
The McKinney ISD Board of Trustees unanimously
approved a middle school student redistribution plan during the
February Regular Board meeting on Monday, Feb. 25. The new school
zones for middle schools will be effective for the 2008-2009 school
year when Dr. Jack Cockrill Middle School opens.
Current 7th grade students who will be entering the
8th grade for the 2008-2009 school, and who were rezoned to a
different middle school, have the option to remain at the current
middle school they attend or attend the school that they were
rezoned to.
This applies to ONLY CURRENT 7th grade students.
Any 7th grade student that wishes to remain at their
current middle school for their 8th grade year in 2008-2009 will be
required to complete a Request to Stay form. More detailed
information about the Request to Stay form and process will be
available at each middle school campus in the near future.

Criteria Used In Developing Redistribution Plan
There were several criteria considered in the development of the
various scenarios that were studied. The following are the criteria
that were used (in no particular order):
-
Provide relief for campuses that have outgrown their
capacity
-
Maximize the utilization of the campuses
-
Extend the time as far as possible before future
redistribution of middle school students will need to occur
-
Minimize, whenever possible, the split feeder pattern
from elementary school to middle school
-
Provide diversity at all of the middle school
campuses
-
Increase the geographical proximity to a closely
located middle school where possible
Positive Outcomes
Unfortunately, not all of these criteria can be met in every
scenario and some compromise had to take place when looking at these
considerations. However, the majority
of the criteria have been addressed. In the approved plan
we feel that the following positive outcomes have been addressed:
-
An increase in geographical proximity to the middle
schools
-
All five (5) middle schools have diversity
-
Allows for continued growth at Scott Johnson Middle
School (the area that will most likely face the greatest growth in
the near future)
-
If growth projections remain as accurate as they have
in the past, there will not need to be any additional redistribution
of middle schools for the next 5 years
-
Faubion, Evans, Dowell and Scott Johnson all receive
some relief
Specific Changes to Current Middle School
Attendance Zones
The approved plan includes the following changes to existing middle school zones:
-
All of Eddins Elementary moves from Scott Johnson MS
to Dowell MS
-
All of Wilmeth Elementary moves from Scott Johnson MS
to Cockrill MS
-
All of Minshew Elementary south of Hwy. 380 moves
from Scott Johnson to Cockrill MS
-
All of Slaughter Elementary moves from Dowell to
Cockrill
-
In order to provide relief for Evans, a portion of
Malvern Elementary move from Evans MS to Cockrill MS
-
The portion of Burks Elementary that is north of Hwy.
380 moves from Faubion MS to Scott Johnson MS
